Update to rude town council officers case

Ivan:

This morning, the town council’s PR officer emailed me back about the earlier mentioned case.  She said the caregiver who exchanged angry words with the officers was actually cursing and swearing.  I explained to her that it is always CWS’s protocol to check with caregivers if caregivers have been rude to town council property officers too, when caregivers highlight such complains to us.  As far as we gathered, it was the caregivers who were offended first and then both parties started the exchange of words.

At the same time, the PR officer has included all the relevant officers in her email reply to CWS.  Since she has opened up the issue to her officers and superiors in her reply to us, we extend this openess to the caregivers and our executive committee by copying them in the email too.  As I was typing the email, the caregiver just contacted us and said that she has received a call from her in-charge property officer.  Again rudeness came through when the officer told the caregiver that if if tonight’s session with MP does not go well (caregivers are meeting the MP to speak about the culling of the cats), she will have to catch all to cats to be “sha diao” (meaning “killing” in Mandarin).  If wonder if such threatening language should be used when communicating with caregivers?  Again, I think this other officer has to be counselled too.  We have feedback to the Town Council about this.

  1. The arrogance of town council officers need to be put in check. Some seems to cower with complainants who are rude even when their complaints are unreasonable but seems to treat caregivers with disdain.
Indeed if possible, video such encounter with mobile phone camera and shame them publicly.
Caregivers must not be intimidated as town council officers and their MPs are there to serve ALL residents. Even if one resident said NO to removal of cats, there must not be any mandate to “sha diao” any “mao”!

Hi hi, able to share which town council is it from? perhaps there are other caregivers of the same area and are able to help out, esp during the upcoming meet the MP session?

    Hi Angela,

Thanks for your concern. We have activated the relevant comm member and volunteers to help. Sorry we do not release specific reference details here to prevent other problems. Hope you understand.

    Chinky,

I agree with you that we need to report negative behaviours of TC officers in order to keep these abuse of power in check. Having said that, it is necessary that caregivers keep their cool and not react to the rudeness. If caregivers do, then the case is not as strong since both parties are at fault…
